Kazuko Memorial in New York City and Thinking of the Colors, Moods, Tones for Spring

Kazuyo was invited to attend the memorial service at Carnegie Hall on January 14 for the well-known Japanese jewelry designer, Kazuko. She designed exclusively for Barney's and was an eccentric and popular figure in New York circles. The jewelry designs she crafted were simple and elegant combinations of stone and metal wiring that over the years became favorite accessories to many New York fashion-setters.
The service in honor of her memory included a piano concert by another recognized Japanese artist, the pianist Mitsuko Uchida. It was heart-warming to see this celebration of a Japanese artist in New York, where she made her home, and to feel how admired and respected she was by American society. Kazuyo was only disappointed in knowing that the designer Kazuko was not equally as recognized by Japanese society.
Her designs conveyed a sense of her Eastern culture and a search for calm and peaceful energy. The stones and gems she chose to make her jewelry with were always symbols of different energies, in their colors and their compositions.

The colors and materials we surround ourselves with ultimately do tell a lot about who we are and how we feel.

As this colder season will soon unfold into a welcome Spring, we are thinking of warmer colors and tones to dress in and have around us. Looking to the days with more sun and light ahead, we take pleasure in soft colors: creams, warming bronzes, delicate pinks...
